There are two very old fig trees at Haría Cycling Club that had not been pruned for very, very many years...

Not really knowing what to do, but with a little help from the internet, the first prune got rid of the excess growth on the lower branches of the smaller tree at the back of the property.

The first prune definitely did not kill the tree and in November it looked much better than it had done at the same time the previous year.

By February 'winter' had done its magic and we were was ready for a second, more aggressive prune.

Further research on the internet suggested we should be much more aggressive with the upper branches if we wanted healthy trees that we could use the fruit from in years to come.

4 weeks after the aggressive prune we were delighted to see new, healthy, growth on the tree.

The second, larger, fig tree is front right and this will be our next pruning project.
